Working with Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum

“YYAAAAAYYYY!!! It looks so good!!” – Joseph G. (Development Director)

Many new things are happening at Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum in Evanston, IL that the home page needed to reflect that more.  From a new name and logo (formerly Mitchell Museum of the American Indian) to new exhibits, we knew we needed to create something that could pack all of the information on one screen easily for visitors to stay up to date. Working closely with the GINM team, we did just that!

Adding elements like the Upcoming Events block, a sound file to help pronounce the new name with quick links to plan your visit, view the exhibit information, see the beautiful garden and check out the resources as well as support the museum has met the online goals and visitor counts. While also keeping in mind all of the SEO requirements to help boost their search listing placements!

The team was interested in adding more usability and accessibility. We added Accessibe and Google’s translate tool to help share the site information.

As we were collaborating on the home page, we heard concerns about using the WordPress editor. So, we updated the back end to our favorite tool allowing more drag and drop and WYSIWYG editing (vs code!).  Easier to edit equals faster updates and current content! “The menus, content blocks and image updates are so much easier now.”
