ARTURIA BETA TESTING

DavidB continues to Beta test for Arturia – Music hardware and software company based in Grenoble, France. While most the testers are audio professionals, DavidB brings a unique perspective as a graphic designer focusing on the UI (user interface).

FRACTURE

An example DavidB is especially excited about is giving feedback on the need for easy to read, high contrast colours and labels. Dark grey on a darker grey background is not only too hard to read on many computer displays (and for many users).  Suggesting a higher contrast and bolder colours, and adding an outline to text buttons allowing the user to quickly and easily glance at their screen to know what is happening to the audio signal while focusing on creating their music.

ACID V

Arturia is also known for recreating classic synthesizers through the fascinating history of electronic music.  One project DavidB really enjoyed working on is the well known Roland computer controlled Bass Line synths (TB-303/TR-707/TR-727)  inspired Acid House V software instrument.  This mid 1980s’s musical subgenre (Acid House) derived from House Music – both of which have origins here in Chicago!

“The 303 did weird, wonderful things when the resonance on the filter was cranked up, squelching and squealing in a unique way, especially when run through distortion.”
