Where is your DEI Statement?
Your DEI statement needs to candidly demonstrate where your company stands, where you’d like to go, and how you’ll get there.
In 2014, a survey by Glassdoor found that 67% of those seeking jobs felt that a diverse workforce was essential, and 57% of employees felt that their company was not doing enough to cultivate a diverse workforce. In other words, yes your company needs a diversity and inclusion mission statement.
What does a DEI statement look like?
It outlines, specifically, where the company’s efforts are focused and the steps they are taking to build a strong DEI culture. A DEI statement will: Affirm the company’s commitment to DEI. Identify the groups that are the primary areas of focus (e.g., women, people of color, veterans, older workers, etc.).
What should be in a diversity equity and inclusion statement?
Your DEI statement should include concrete objectives that will create sustainable change. To do that, translate your action plan into public-facing goals. For example, many companies commit to increasing leadership diversity or providing specific resources to employees from underrepresented groups.
