Behind the Scenes of our 25th
On August 13 DavidB and I had something to celebrate!
But thanks to COVID we could not have our 25th Wedding Anniversary party.
Instead, we had an adventure photoshoot (at home!). Can you guess our inspiration?
Here are some behind the scenes:
Tech talk:
The most popular camera for blogging, and currently our favourite camera right now is the lightweight Mirrorless Canon M50
Paired with the beautiful Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 STM pancake lens, this camera can capture beautiful, crisp and low light photos and video with amazing bokeh (blurred background.)
While the camera is good in low light, it’s always good to bounce some natural light back onto your subject to add depth and definition. There are many bounce reflectors, DavidB wanted to experiment with creating a custom reflector. Adding a 3/4”20 nut, bolt and washer to the center of a large foam board we were able to attach the DIY reflector onto a camera tripod. To get more precise control, we also added an Adjustable Articulating Magic Arm so we could direct the light exactly where it needed to go.
You wouldn’t be able to tell, but a couple of the shots required the camera to be placed in unusual positions where a normal tripod wouldn’t work. A tripod with highly adjustable, and independent legs was needed to navigate the uneven terrain. We got the camera in the perfect position with the Geekoto 77” tripod.
The flip out/tilting lens on the M50 really come in handy when shooting in unusual positions. The multi-shot timer also helps let you capture a selection of photos to choose between.
The logo was created in Adobe Illustrator, and then imported into Photoshop for a consistent theme. While most of the composition of the shots was done in-camera, it’s always good to clean up levels, saturation etc in Adobe Lightroom before bringing it into Photoshop.
You’d be surprised what backgrounds you can find around your own house giving the illusion of traveling to far off lands!
We asked that folks join us virtually – Send us a #selfie wearing your favourite headwear or #celebraring in #your own way! (and they did)
Thank you for all the good wishes! And someday you know we will throw quite a bash to celebrate together!
Stay Safe! #wearamask
