Drupal 7 Upgrade

Remember back when we launched your cool new Drupal content management site and I mentioned I would be letting you know when there are BIG things to be aware of with the site’s back-end code? Well, now is the time.

Why upgrade?

Your site is currently running 6.xx just fine. However, come June 2013 it may not. That is when Drupal.org has suggested users upgrade as support for Drupal 6 will be winding down. Drupal 7 has been out and tested well since January 2011 (the latest version is Drupal 7.15 released on August 2012). The current Drupal.org site just upgraded to Drupal 7 in the 4th quarter. And Drupal 8 is in the pre-planning stages. So that means Drupal 6 is now the lowest version out there and the least supported. Browsers, module creators and tech support will focus more on Drupal 7 in the next few months.

What does this mean for your site?

We have taken a look at the modules your site is using and checked to see if they will be supported in Drupal 7. If we can see something that won’t be working, we can make a suggestion for a change to your site. And while we are speaking of change, if there are things on your site you want to change – from content to layout to functionality – now would be a great time to put those changes into motion too.

Be on the look-out for an email from JameyB with a proposal on upgrading your Drupal site.
In the meantime, let us know if you have any questions!
